You are eligible to join a squadron if you have reached your 12th but not your 19th birthday... *** The best time to join a Cadet Squadron is in September or October, since the Cadet training year is the same as the school year. This does not prevent you from joining later in the year, but you may not have time to complete all the requirements for the upcoming summer camps. If you are turning 12 in the second semester you have two choices: You can join on your 12th birthday to get a head start on the next year; or, you can commence the application process to secure your position in the Squadron, then complete your application and join the Squadron in September. Older youths (16+) should consult with the Commanding Officer to discuss their goals, opportunities and expectations. The Cadet training system is designed to receive youths 12-15 who will derive maximum benefit from 4 to 7 years of Cadet training, experience, promotions and summer training opportunities. Some summer camps are restricted to Cadets with 2, 3 or 4 years of Cadet training. Ultimately, any amount of participation in the program is better than none, and mature teens may find that the program still meets or exceeds their expectations, regardless of their limited window of opportunity. Cadets remains a premier training venue for teenagers interested in Military College, the Canadian Forces or any number of professional careers. |
